How to Ascend to Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro

Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro is one of the most important attractions in the city and is surely one of the most visited in the world. Don’t forget that he won the title of Wonder of the World not very deserved in my opinion, and that many people come to visit it for that very reason.

Now, since it is so visited and not so imposing, it is best to visit it when there is less people at the top to be able to take some photos and appreciate the views more peacefully.

How to get to Christ the Redeemer

There is 4 options To get to Christ the Redeemer, we are going to start with the one we use.

ANY TRANSPORTATION + CORCOVADO TRAIN (only option to get on first)

In this option we always end up going up to Christ the Redeemer, with the corcovado train.

To take the train you have to arrive at the Corcovado train station. And to get to the station you have 3 options. Only for these cases should add the value of the entry that we explain in the next title.

UBER

The first and the one we used was UBER, in Rio de Janeiro it is super legal, safe and also economical. In many cases it is usually advisable to pay for Uber before the bus as long as there are 2 or more people.

The Uber from Copacabana to the station cost us 20 reais compared to the almost 10 reais we would have spent with the bus. Is the difference justified? That is up to each person, we chose this option to try to get there as quickly as possible and not have to get up so early without knowing when the bus would take.

METRO + BUS

Here we have to calculate about 4 reais of expense per person and it is only convenient to do it faster if they have a metro station nearby.

They must get off at the station Machado length to combine with the bus that goes to Cosme Velho neighborhoodand get off right in front of the station.

And if not directly take bus from the place of your accommodation or wherever you are at that moment. The lines that approach are several and I recommend checking at that time with google maps to see the best option.

COMBIS OR VANS

There is a second option, which are minibuses that take you directly to the top of Christ the Redeemer and that leave from certain points. As positive points is that it is the cheaper option You don’t have to combine transportation and you get there super fast.

The only problem is that you don’t arrive first, if that’s what you’re looking for, and you miss getting on the train, something that we thought was very nice but not essential either.

TOUR WITH AGENCY

It is usually the most expensive option, because you are going to pay more but it is not a tour to Christ the Redeemer but a tour of Rio de Janeirotherefore, for those who do not have much time, or do not want to walk a lot, it can be one of the best options.

You can easily explore the river on your own, but we will not deny that you always learn much more when you move with a guide. That’s up to each individual’s taste.

WALKING

Here we do not have the cheap option but it is directly free. It’s free not because somehow you’re going to have to get to the starting point. But they only spend 4 reales and walk to the top. Those who did it told us that it is approximately an hour and a half walking uphill. And it is recommended to go in company because it can be dangerous in some sections in terms of safety.

We only speak because of what they told us, so whoever wants to do so, check everything carefully beforehand. A positive point are the views that one can have when going up. And unless you start walking at 6 in the morning there is no way to get there before the train.

How to get tickets for Christ the Redeemer

First clarify that the entrance to Christ the Redeemer, is free. As we mentioned, if you walk you don’t pay a peso.

What you do pay is the combi, the tour or the corcovado train.

In our case we pay 79 reais each one, that varies depending on the season. On low it is usually about 15 reais less.

Is it advisable to get your ticket in advance?

We went and took it out at that moment. The first train leaves at 8:30 in the morning and one leaves every 30 minutes.

We arrived at 8 in the morning when the ticket office had just opened and there were already people waiting in line. But this line was for paying by card. I don’t think anyone realized that up ahead there is a box to pay in cash and you skip all that waiting.

Now if you want to play it safe, get the ticket first, but be more than sure that the climate It’s going to be good. Otherwise you can see an almost covered Christ the Redeemer or even not see it at all.

It can be obtained both through the Corcovado Train website and through a cell phone application that has the same name.

Train from Corcovado to Christ the Redeemer

Once they have the ticket, they get in line to wait for access to the train to be enabled. From its departure it is about 20 minutes to the top with about 3 stops along the way. I recommend sitting in seats in the right side if they are available.

Once they arrive there is a elevatorfor about 15 people, an escalator that was not working at that time, or get energized and run up the stairs. stairs. We took this last option. We ended up jogging up the last staircase with 2 who ran from the elevator.

In any case, until the second train and the buses arrive, they have a fairly quiet 15 minutes. I would tell them that maybe a little more, then it will explode with people. Arm yourself with patience and invent any pose so that the photo turns out well.

Even when I was alone, a person crouched behind me, and I upload it as an example because we have taken better photos that we share on our Instagram.

What we found at the top of Corcovado

In addition to the figure of Christ the Redeemer, which in itself is not so gigantic, we found some wonderful views, which is why it is worth going up for me.

As you will see, all the people crowd at the end, but by waiting calmly we can at least appreciate for a few minutes the incredible images that the corcovado gives us.

Drone flying is more than prohibited, as is standing or sitting on the edges of the attraction. There are some guards who are constantly farting at tourists.

Before climbing the last stairs there is a cafeteria where you can also have breakfast with very nice views or even lunch if you went later. They also sell all kinds of juices and snacks.
