Paris Unwrapped: Essential Tourist Stops for an Unforgettable Visit

Paris is one of those cities that just by walking around it is worth having visited, in itself it is one of our favorite cities in the world and the favorite in Europe.

However, thinking about what you would do in a day in Paris or how to organize your itinerary, there are tourist places in Paris that cannot be missed for anything in the world.

I say this keeping in mind that it is better to always do everything the first few days and leave the rest for last, because if they left the Eiffel Tower for last and it rains, they will want to die.

Our itinerary can be found at

What to see in Paris yes or yes

Climb to the eiffel tower

Obviously it is the symbol of Paris, one of the most photographed and visited places in the world and I think it was the one where we took the most photos. It is so beautiful that from whatever side you are on you will want to take a photo and stay for hours looking at it. You can also see it from all over Paris and I don’t know if it is prettier at night or during the day.

A lot of people visit so if you want to be alone, go early in the morning or late almost at dawn. In any case, there is always a little place to be quiet.

Entrance to the eiffel tower

Now to access what would be the lower part of the tower you have to go through security and you only continue to pay entry to go to the top, something that is mandatory in my opinion

You can go up as much stairs as for elevator. I did it both ways and if you are in a state to climb (there are more than 1500 steps) and you don’t have vertigo, it is recommended to do it by stairs, and you will also save a few euros. There are 2 floors where you can rest, and where there are fewer people to take photos.

Regarding queues The only time they can be avoided is early in the morning. If they go up the ladder, they almost always go up immediately, so that is another plus point. Obviously it is best to go at dusk to see both the city during the day and at night when it begins to light up.

From June 21 to September 2: from 9:00 a.m. to 12:45 a.m. hours. For the last floor until 11 p.m.
Rest of the year: from 9:30 a.m. to 11:45 p.m. By stairs until 6:00 p.m.

Regarding prices you have several options:

He Ticket The most expensive is the one that accesses the top floor with an elevator, it costs 25 euros. The one that follows is the same, only 19 euros for stairs. Getting to the second floor by elevator or stairs leaves 16 or 10 respectively.

From where to see the Eiffel Tower

To see the tower in its greatest splendor there are 2 places in opposite directions. One is the Mars fielda place where typical picnics are held on the grass with the tower in the background.

The second is Trocadero , a high place from which you have the best views but obviously there are usually quite a few people. You have to go either day or night to see the lighting of the tower and the hourly light show. If they go at 1 in the morning, which is when the lighting goes off, they only leave the flashes on for 10 minutes.

Also from the Seine there are beautiful views of the tower with the contrast of the river, look for that on the side of the bridge that crosses there are stairs to go down to the bank.

Going from the trocadero towards the tower and crossing the bridge you can also find one of the companies that runs the tour in ship by the Seine. The truth is that it didn’t seem like a big deal to me, but it is another way to see all the tourist places in Paris in one go and even more so in summer enjoying the day.

Arc de Triomphe (the main monument in Paris)

Another of the representative monuments of this city, in this case more than important for its history because it represents all the victories of the army commanded by Napoleon. In addition, their remains and military parades from both world wars passed beneath it. Striking for its size and architectural details, it is one of the tourist places in Paris that we cannot miss visiting.

Access it is gratuitous, they just have to go down one of the stairs that are in the corner of the roundabout to take the underground passage. So that you can position yourself as we do, we took this photo to your right. Since only cars can circulate in the roundabout. Once you are on the other side if you want to go to the top If they must pay about 12 euros. It’s worth it? If they have time and budget, yes, if not, it is something that can be ignored. There are good views of the Eiffel Tower, in my opinion, better than those of the cathedral, but since it is not so high, you do not have good views of the entire city.

If you don’t want to go up, it is also worth accessing it to see the tomb the unknown soldier represented with the eternal flame and also observe the 4 pillars that make it up where, in addition to having beautiful figures, the battles won by Napoleon’s army are engraved.

Visiting hours are from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. and it is not usually so crowded. With the Paris Pass you can go up for free.

Louvre Museum

Its architecture has no equal and is another of the symbols of the city. It is worth just going there both during the day and at night because it is really very beautiful and has no equal in the world. Now it’s worth it inside? Being in Paris, I would say that you have to know it and it is told to you by someone who is not a big art lover.

Now if you don’t have time or much interest, it’s better to visit other places. Everyone goes for the Mona Lisa and kill yourself to see a painting that is smaller than you think, I passed, the museum has thousands of more interesting works, so if you go just for that, don’t go.

The museum is huge and can take you half a day to explore quickly. There is lockers to leave coats and backpacks and several places to sit during the tour that each one chooses with the maps that can be taken for free at the information center.

The entrance costs if I remember correctly. 20 euros and visiting hours are from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. except on Wednesdays and Fridays until 10 p.m. If you want to see it with few people, choose these last two days for the evening. We were there on a Wednesday 2 hours before it closed and we walked through it almost empty.

You can find all the information about the museum at

Latin Quarter

Just to cover, I consider it essential to visit the Notre Dame Cathedral and walk a few blocks through the neighborhood to get to the Panteon. I also consider it a good place for lunch or dinner.

All the information about these places can be found in the following post Barrio Latino

Tourist places in Paris away from the center

Palace of Versailles

The best-known palace and in our opinion the most beautiful in the world both outside and inside and for its gardens. Despite being a little far from the center of Paris, it is worth dedicating a visit to it. tomorrow to learn what the French monarchy was.

The palace is declared a World Heritage Site for being part of the history of France, until the French Revolution.

The entrance to the palace costs 18 euros with audio guide free, which I consider important to use to learn even more about this incredible place. The best recommendation we can make is that 9 o’clock Stand at the door when it opens, you will save a long line, be able to walk without being crowded and you will thank us. If you want, you can arrive earlier and visit the gardens since they open at 8, but visiting them completely in 1 hour is quite impossible.

On the tour you can visit the main rooms, bedrooms, the beautiful chapel and the Gallery of Mirrors.

Regarding the visit to garden I have never covered it completely but there are bicycles or a little train that takes you to the main places.

How to get to the palace of Versailles

To get to the palace of Versailles there is a train which leaves you 3 blocks away and the journey is approximately 40 minutes. The train is called RER C of the Versailles-Rive Gauche line, it is yellow and begins at the Saint-Michel Notre-Dame station and ends in Versailles, having the Orsay Museum, Les Invalides and Champ de Mars-Eiffel Tower as intermediate stops. We arrived with the metro from our hotel to the Eiffel Tower and from there we combined with this line.

Montmartre

It is the most bohemian neighborhood in Paris, it is known as the painters’ neighborhood and it is quite picturesque. Many will say that it is not essential and that is why I put it last but for me it is like the Trastevere in Rome, you have to visit it and also during the day and at night obviously!! The atmosphere is totally different.

It comes with meter No problems, the problem comes when you have to climb because it is on a hill more than 100 meters high and there are several steps.

Now if you want to save physical wear and tear, there is cable car. Yooo I don’t see the charm, nothing better than walking this neighborhood and going up between the houses and its little streets. Now if you are dead or have a hard time going up, take the funicular and walk down.

What to see in Montmartre

This neighborhood is divided into 2 areas. The lower part, which is where you get to with the subway, doesn’t really have much charm. At night when the neon lights start to light up and that’s when you realize that you are standing on a street of old brothels and sex shops, that’s why the famous Moulin Rouge is located here. This street is called Boluevard de clichy and during the day it is really not worth it. At night it is a totally different neighborhood and there are also many restaurants to eat.

However, in my opinion the best thing is to eat in the upper part of the neighborhood that has more charm. It can be expensive if you choose a good restaurant but don’t worry, there are several creperias to eat the best sweet or savory dishes.

At the top we find the icon of this neighborhood, the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, a few steps from the Painters’ Square, a place where artists gather to show their work and offer it to the public.

When covering a few blocks, it is best to get lost among the alleys that provide the best postcards.

There are a lot more tourist places in Paris that I could mention, however I think these cannot be missing from your itinerary.
