The small island of Curacao

It was 7 in the morning and our day started very early so we could have some breakfast at the Santa Barbara hotel and be at the port from where the catamaran left for Klein Curacao. The place was Jan Thiel Beach, one of the many beautiful beaches on this island and which I would enjoy a few days later when staying a few steps away at the Papagayo Hotel.

How to get to Klein Curacao

At 8:30 in the morning the catamaran arrived and we began to board the boat. About 2 hours awaited us to the small island of Klein Curacao. Approximately 30 people got on. Some of us settled under the roof of the boat to have a little sun, while others preferred to throw themselves in the nets on the bow of the catamaran to sunbathe early in the morning.

The value of the excursion is 100 dollars with everything included. We do it with the company Bluefinn but I think there are 2 other companies that do it.

The catamaran

The boat is quite comfortable for the hours of travel to the island, with bathrooms, tables and a large bar where they prepare food and drinks.

As for drinks, it is free at all times, without and with alcohol, including beers. Regarding food, it is free when it is served at approximately 1 in the afternoon. It includes meat, chicken, pork and for those who do not eat meat you can order in advance when booking and they will give you salmon. There is also salad

There is no breakfast so the ideal is to have already had breakfast at the hotel. They give some fruits but unless they get dizzy and don’t like it, it’s best to go with something in your stomach.

The trip, at least with us, was super calm, he didn’t even move and Sol, who suffers a little from seasickness while sailing, had an excellent time.

What to do in Klein Curacao

As you will see, the catamaran anchors far from the shore, so the first thing you have to do is jump into the water and swim. Don’t worry about your bags because there is a semi-rigid that takes you closer to the island.

And for those who can’t swim they can also bring them closer. On the island there are several turtles that begin to appear near the catamaran and there is a lot of life below, so the main activity is to put on the masks and go snorkeling.

The second activity is to lie on the sand to sunbathe, take photos, enjoy the water and that’s it.

Klein Curacao is a paradise but desert place, there is nothing else to do but enjoy. There is no signal so bye phones. It is a 100% break. We also did not see rental of any type of accessory, activity such as jet skis, nothing at all.

And the best of all is that the beach is quite wide and the 4 boats that arrive are spread out along it, so the entire beach is for you.

As you will see, the sand is very white and the water is very turquoise, we were amazed when we arrived, we rarely saw these colors. There is no need to clarify too much because I highly recommend taking this excursion, because it is the only way to get to know this place.

There are some little houses that provide shade so you can also rest there without problems and the people on the catamaran bring down a water dispenser so they can hydrate. In any case, you can return to the boat at any time or spend as much time as you want there.

island lighthouse

We could say that the island has 2 attractions, which are the Lighthouse and an abandoned ship. We didn’t visit the latter because it was very hot and it was just to take some photos.

To get to the lighthouse we walked for about 15 minutes, basically through the desert. It is a path where the only thing we cross is a large number of small iguanites that hide as we advance.

The lighthouse is quite photogenic and you can reach one of the highest parts but the views, at least to me, did not seem like much to walk and waste time on the beach.

So in our case we would tell them that unless taking photos is too much for them, they should stay on the beach enjoying this unique place. Even more so, the ship leaves again at 3:00 p.m. to be able to arrive back at port at 5:00 p.m.
