From Canaima we returned to Caracas to fly to Los Roques, the most paradisiacal beaches in Venezuela and without a doubt in South America.
We had wanted to visit this destination for a long time and every person we had met spoke wonderfully about this place. Which is why it was one of the reasons we wanted to organize this trip to Venezuela, in addition to getting to know Angel Falls.
How to get to Los Roques in Venezuela
To fly to Los Roques you must do so from La Guaira airport. About 5 airlines depart from there and cover the journey to Los Roques, which lasts approximately 45 minutes.
In our case we did it on the way out with Aerocaribe and on the way back with Conviasa. Keep in mind that they are small planes with about 10 passengers for those who are afraid of them. But the truth is that the plane doesn’t even move and the journey it takes until landing will have you glued to the window forgetting that you are on a plane.
The other thing is that only small luggage such as backpacks or carry-ons are allowed and depending on the airline with a limit that ranges between 7 and 10 kg.
There is also the option of the Ferry which is cheaper but clearly takes more hours and has a very limited frequency.
When you arrive at Los Roques you will have to pay about 30 dollars entrance fee per person.
Where to stay in Los Roques Venezuela
In our case we stayed at Posada Lagunita, about 300 meters from the airport and the dock from where the boats leave for the keys.
They have several accommodation options but know that it is always inn style. Although some are more luxurious than others, you will not find large buildings because it is not allowed.
The system is all-inclusive or a complete diet covering all meals.
Great Rock
Also, another fact is that Gran Roque where all the inns are located does not have a nice beach, therefore every day they go to the keys, so one is only at the inn to have breakfast, dinner and sleep.
Inside the main island there is not much to do since it is very small and walking through the 5 streets it has can take half an hour.
Something that is not to be missed is approaching the pier to watch the sunset, which with the noise of the birds and the pelicans swooping down to eat the fish make for an incredible spectacle.
Another thing you can do is climb to the small hill where the virgin is to have a panoramic view of the entire island and the nearest keys.
Keys that you can visit in Los Roques Venezuela
Los Roques has many keys and without a doubt they are among the best in Venezuela. There are 2 that are the two closest to Gran Roque and that are the ones that normally include the inns. While the rest you must pay separately as an excursion to see several or as a transfer.
Cayo Francisqui
It was the first key we visited in Los Roques and we were impressed. We leave the dock at 9 in the morning, that is something you coordinate directly with the accommodation. The accommodation may have its own boat or hire a third party and share with other people from other inns.
In any case, it is a 5-minute trip in which you will travel with your refrigerator, umbrellas and chairs and at all times the hotel or boat staff will help you set up and carry everything.
The ice cream cone, just like in Morrocoy, includes everything for lunch and drinks to spend the day in the Cayo. And the same thing happens to leave, it is something that you coordinate with the hotel and the boat as long as it agrees with the time limits set by the company, which is normally between 5 and 6 in the afternoon.
One good thing about the keys is that they are very shallow, ideal for children and for moving calmly along the beach.
In the case of Francisqui, there is a place to snorkel called the little pool that you can go to visit on your own or hire the excursion or vests. The attraction of that place is the coral and a virgin about 5 meters deep.
Water Cay
One of the most famous keys in Los Roques, but one of the furthest from Gran Roque since it is 50 minutes by boat.
To get to know this key you can hire it yourself on the island, either with an agency to have a more exclusive experience with tents and more comfortable chairs or do it with the cooperative that makes the transfers on the island and is a little cheaper.
During the entire navigation, the different blue colors of the water make the 50 minutes go by very quickly and when they arrive at Cayo de Agua they realize that it was very worth it.
The tour returns at 3 in the afternoon, at least the one we did since on the way back you visit 2 more keys. We have seen that there were other boats that stayed longer since many groups directly rent a private boat for the day and in that case you manage the schedules you want.
What you should know is that it is a completely desert key, without services and where you can only enjoy paradise with intense blues and white sand that forces you to wear glasses permanently.
Cayo de Agua is the place that everyone wants to know since a tongue of sand is formed between two keys that allows you to cross from one to the other while crossing the water on both sides, truly something unique.
Madrisqui Cay
Another of the keys close to the main island, as incredible as the others we have known. It is even the closest and it is the one we recommend if you have little time on the day you arrive or the day you leave to enjoy the beach until the last minute.
Basically all the keys have the same characteristics, shallow depth, incredible beaches and places to snorkel.
As for safety in all the keys, we have left our things and gone snorkeling or walking without problems. It is a very touristy place and of course we recommend not leaving valuables, but normally there are always other people who you can ask to look at your things.
In this case we stayed until 5:30 p.m. and we had arrived at 9:30 a.m., more than enough time to fully enjoy the key.
